In Tune with the Times Adélaïde Ferrière – percussion
XENAKIS, CAGE, FELDMAN et.al.
I freed myself from what I had thought to be freedom, and which actually was only the accretion of habits and tastes. (John Cage)
With Adélaïde Ferrière, we are beginning a new focus on classics of contemporary music, including Iannis Xenakis’ Rebonds, John Cage’s Composed Improvisation for Snare Drum and Morton Feldman’s King of Denmark. They are extraordinary studies, which – each in their own way – explore tonal colour, materiality and freedom in certain given structures. The young French percussionist interprets contemporary works for percussion, including world premieres, as well as numerous arrangements of classical and baroque compositions. At the age of 15, she was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and in 2017 became the first percussionist to win the title of Soloist of the Year at the 24th Victoires de la Musique Classique. For her debut in Tyrol, she and musik+ have also selected compositions by Franco Donatoni, Michael Jarrell and Andrew Thomas.
